Did You Know?
Genesis 5:21-24 ESV
Enoch never died a human death. When he was 365 years old, God simply took him. If you read the verses talking about other people before and after Enoch, you can see that Enoch was different. The scriptures say, "... and he died" after each of the others in Genesis 5. But after Enoch it says, "... and he was not, for God took him."
Prayer List
My dad has had several knee replacement surgeries and a hip replacement. One of his knees keeps getting infected and they don't seem to know why. But he's going in today (10/31/05) for another surgery. My prayer is that he come through the surgery with no problems and that his knee heal correctly this time, and not get infected again.
Update: Dad's knee surgery went well. The doctor said it went better than he expected. My stepmother said that the doctor told her that it was an unusually resistant form of staph. The all staph is resistant. But apparently this one is worse than most. Which explains why they're having so much trouble getting rid of it.
Ken (Glenda's nephew) and his family - lost his 12 yr. old daughter in a parade accident, then was himself involved in a motorcycle accident and is in icu. I can't even imagine the pain his wife and 16 yr. old son have to be going through right now.
Things to look up in a Strong's Concordance
Matthew 28:20 ESVASV says, "... end of the world."ESV says, "... end of the age."Genesis 4:22 ESVASV says, "And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, the forger of every cutting instrument of brass and iron:..."ESV says, "Zillah also bore Tubal-cain; he was the forger of all instruments of bronze and iron."Genesis 5:2 ESVASV says, "male and female created he them, and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created."ESV says, "Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created." Footnote 1 says, "Hebrew adam." I've heard before that the Hebrew word that is translated to Adam means man. So is the difference in usage, or in the translators personal opinion? I can see where it could be usage in this case, since it says God named them Adam or Man. Especially since it already stated previously that He allowed Adam to name Eve, and he first called her the Hebrew word for woman, which I think is ishshah (while man is ish, if I remember right). And then later he called her Eve, meaning the mother of all living. So Eve was called woman and Eve. So it would make sense that Adam would be called both man and Adam, and that God would call them both man, meaning what we think of today as mankind.
Genesis 5:29 ESV
ASV says, "shall comfort us in our work and in the toil of our hands."ESV says, "shall bring us relief from our work and from the painful toil of our hands." Footnote 4 says, "Noah sounds like the Hebrew for rest.""Comfort us in our work" and "bring us relief from our work"... the same?"Comfort us... in the toil of our hands" and "bring us relief... from the painful toil of our hands"... the same?If the Hebrew word that translates to Noah really does mean rest, then the ESV could be more clear in the true meaning of that scripture than the ASV.
Genesis 5:32 ESV
This is worded differently than the other scriptures talking about when someone fathered a son. So were Shem, Ham, and Japheth triplets? Or did Noah have them seperately, starting at about 500 years old?

Memory Verses
This is where I'm going to keep a running list of the scriptures I'd like to commit to memory. I've never been very good at memorizing things, but I'm going to give it another shot. This is not necessarily in the order I'm going to memorize them. It's mostly in the order that I come across them in my studies. But I may move which ever one I'm currently working on to the top. So don't be surprised if the order is a little different sometimes.

John 1:1-3 ESV
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made."
Matthew 6:31-34 ESV
"Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kindgom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is it's own trouble."
1 Peter 4:1-2 ESV
"Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God."
John 14:6 ESV
"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
